Indoor Outdoor Thermometer Picks of 2020

Best All-Around Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

ThermaPro TP65A

$$$

I’ve chosen this model by ThermaPro as the best all-around device for several reasons. First, it is currently the top selling indoor outdoor thermometer on Amazon, with over 5,500 units sold to date. It also has an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars and a respectable transmission range of 200 feet. Second, it is versatile in the sense that, while it only comes with 1 sensor, you can add more in order to monitor temperatures in multiple rooms at once. Lastly, the TP65A also provides you with local humidity information, all from an extremely user-friendly LCD display that lights up at night so you’ll always be able to see it. Overall, it’s hard to go wrong with this device. The TP65A is a solid choice if you’re looking to make a quick and easy decision.

Indoor Outdoor Thermometer with Best Features

Wittime 2079

$$$$

With its colorful icons, high resolution LCD display and minimalistic design, the Wittime 2079 is the supermodel of indoor outdoor thermometers. Don’t let its looks deceive you, however. The Wittime 2079 is also highly accurate. Its temperature and humidity error ranges are only ±0.4F and 2% respectively. Furthermore, it has a wireless sensor transmission range of 328 feet – a lot more than the TP65A above 👆. So, although its price tag is a bit higher, you’re definitely getting a lot more with this model. It’s a fine choice if you’re looking to spend more for superior accuracy, range and looks 😎.

Indoor Outdoor Thermometer with Best Design

Govee Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

$$

This model by Govee is unique in that it transmits temperature and humidity information directly to your mobile device without needing an additional sensor like the other models do. You”ll be able to keep an eye on the temperature from up to an impressive 260 feet away via bluetooth connection. The only downside is that if you intend to use it for monitoring outside temperatures, then you will need to place it in a protected area outside, where you will only be able to view the data from your mobile device and not the console. Otherwise, the Govee Indoor Outdoor Thermometer would be a perfect choice for placing indoors, like in a wine cellar or a walk in freezer. That way, you can view the information when you walk into the chosen area or remotely from your mobile device.

Best Budget Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

AcuRite 00782A2

$

AcuRite is a trusted name that has been making thermometers for years. This is the tiniest wireless thermometer available among the top-rated ones and is humbly priced. It comes with a small wireless outdoor sensor with an integrated hanger and a bold display. If you have very little space on your table then this is the ultimate indoor outdoor thermometer for you. However, this unit is not a very good choice if you are looking for a device that offers additional  weather information, like humidity. Its transmission distance is also limited, with a range of only 100 feet.

Best Multi-Sensor Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

AMIR Triple Sensor Thermometer

$$$$

If you need to monitor multiple locations at once, then this is the best indoor outdoor thermometer for you. It comes with 3 sensors, where as most packages only come with one. You’ll be able to start monitoring outside as well as inside temperatures in multiple rooms right off the bat. Although this unit not made by one of the big brands, it has outstanding reviews on Amazon and a very friendly price tag. Like the Ambient Weather WS-10 (see below), it comes with 3 sensors which can be placed anywhere for monitoring humidity and temperature in multiple locations around your house or place of business. The differences between the AMIR thermometer and the WS-10, however, are as follows:

  1. The AMIR provides trend information
  2. The AMIR provides 24 hour high and low records
  3. The WS-10 can support up to 8 sensors while the AMIR can only support 3
  4. The WS-10 has alarms that can be set for high/low readings

Keep in mind that the transmission distance of the sensors is only 36 feet and the accuracy of the temperature and humidity readings is +- 2F and +- 5% respectively. The range and accuracy of this unit is less than the choices above, but you get the convenience of having multiple sensors instead. For greater range and accuracy, go with the TP65A (and buy extra sensors) or the WS-10.

What to Look for in an Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

If you are looking for a highly functional thermometer that you can use inside and outside of your home, you must decide what features are essential to you.

When checking for a thermometer, you should investigate whether it:

  • shows reliable indoor and outdoor readings
  • displays accurate time and date in the clock
  • presents easy to read information
  • has a wireless display
  • exhibits correct high and low daily temperatures
  • offers temperature/forecast prediction
  • transmits temperature from a long distance
  • measures barometric pressure

What is Barometric Pressure

What does barometric pressure mean? Also known as atmospheric pressure, it is the amount of weight that the air above asserts upon us due to the force of gravity. This is a crucial metric in weather observation.

The difference in air pressure can have an affect on the human body, especially for those who are sensitive to weather fluctuations.

According to Dr. Matthew Fink, a chief neurologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center,  low barometric pressure can induce headaches by generating a pressure difference between the surrounding atmosphere and the sinuses.

For a more in depth discussion of barometric pressure, give this article a read.

  3. My complaint is that these local stores in the Sacramento area only sell the Acurite brand of thermometers.
I have had several Acurite units and although the indoor readings seem to be okay, the outdoor readings are so erroneous and hardly dependable. Hoping to find any suggestions for a better brand to finally get accuracy and dependability and with more than one remote sensor.

  4. I bought the La Crosse unit and after one week the indoor thermometer had distorted readings, missing parts of the digital readout. This is a terrible product. I went online for troubleshooting ideas and hit the buttons several times 20+ and changed to two different kind of batteries, none of this worked. Don’t purchase this item.

  5. I realize the other two posts above are very old, but after reading all the pros and cons of at least twelve different digital thermometers I have to ask wouldn’t an old fashion mercury thermometer be better and more accurate??

  6. Each review should include the RANGE of wireless transmission. I need one to monitor the temp in my boat, parked 330 feet from my house.

  7. Just another no nothing crap review of inaccurate digital thermometers. They read to one decimal point yet claim accuracy of only +/- 2 degrees, yet this claim is a still a complete falecy, +/- 3-5 degrees is more common and expected. This authors review of “accurate” thermometers hinges on rating them for size, ease of reading a display but no mention of accuracy of the readings. Until people get tired of these inaccurate devices and demand and only buy truely accurate devices, this crud will continue to be produced and sold. The author should have at the very least investigated the accuracy of these devices, and that would have taken a bit more effort.

  8. I look after an outdoor ice rink that is not near my home and would like a batter powered temperature sensor that can store data for a period of time that can be accessed via Bluetooth through a smartphone. Site has no power and no wifi. Doesn’t need to even have a display on it. Any recommendations?

    • Sorry to hear that, Robin. Although La Crosses often look really nice, there are starting to be more reports of poor quality, like in your case. Maybe try one from Ambient Weather or Davis Instruments this year.

Every one I have found displays the RECORD highs and lows for that day.

  11. I have tried 3 different weather stations. And the outside temperature seems to run high on all of them. About 4-5 degrees. Especially during the heat so the day. Wittime, la crosse and accurite I’ve tried. I have the sensor located in the shade next to wood not metal and for sure not in sun. I’ve heard therma pro is pretty accurate for their price. Any ideas. Thanks

  12. Hi. I have had disappointed results with wireless weather station. Out door temperature and humidity is all I really need. I’ve tried accurite, wittime and la crosse. Every one of them during the highs of the day register 3-6 degrees too warm. And I’ve got the sensor in the shade! Please help! Are the ones that suction to a window a better answer?
